As my class studied China for the last few months, we also studied folk tales and fairy tales. Last weekend I challenged my students to write their own fairy tale (9 accepted the challenge). Here's an excerpt (as written by the student) of one of my favorites (you'll see why):

Once upon a time there was a king named King Theo and he lived in a land with a beautiful catsle. He had a beautiful wife that was a Queen her name was Queen Natilly and they had two servence named Lenny and Carl. They did anything the King and Queen said. Lenny was smart and Carl was kind of dumb. They had a daughter named Melissa. They had an enemy named Villin Streek. Villin Streek always wanted some-thing. They always wanted to Kill there daughter Melissa. They were follwing the ruler of the Villin book. That night Melissa and the King and Queen went to bed. The next morning they checked in Melissa's room and she was gon. They looked everywhere and no daughter Melissa. After an hour passed they recived a magical scroll that was flotting send by Villin Streek. It said "I have captured your daughter Melissa and I am going to strangle her and dip her in a hot boiling pot of lava." The King and Queen gave each other a hostle glare that they were scared. They called their servence Lenny and Carl. They asked "Where is Villin Streek's mountain of evil?" Lenny and Carl said "It is next to the rainbow place." The King and Queen looked at the map. It had a clue. The clue was cross the forest to find Villin Streek. The King and Queen sent their servence to find their daughter Melissa. When Lenny and Carl passed the forest and rainbow place they saw that Villin Streek was little so they stepped on him and cut Melissa down from the rope and took her home. They lived happily ever after. The King and Queen were so happy that they smiled at Lenny and Carl.
